I have to say New York is THE most friendly dog place I have ever been too. Dogs are welcome everywhere in every store and even though your not allowed to take them into places with food, people do. Monte is a small dog, the rats we saw the other night were bigger than Monte. Which isn't really a good thing on a few counts. This morning Monte and I were hanging out at our local on the Lower East Side grabbing a bagel when a man walked past and asked if she was a Saint Benard puppy. Now this man is not the sort of person yer going to mess with so I just ummed a bit and said I think she's just a mutt, he looked at me blankly, so I went on and said you know bit of everything, he kept looking at me blankly so we left quickly. The next corner was another woman with a puppy the size of a small car that wanted to play with Monte, Monte turned into a ferocious ball of snarling, growling, spit fire bad worded creature. The lady looked very taken back and pulled in her large puppy as I explained that she was a cross and grumpy bugger like her mother. She laughed and again we left quickly.
I then took Monte home. I think we were both happy with this.

In Which I meet a very old friend
About 12 years ago an even happened in my life that had me searching the internet for answers. I started corresponding with a lady that was in a similar position to me. We 'clicked' immediately and an instant friendship was formed, we emailed each other daily for years and ended up having babies within a month of each other. She lived in Ann Arbour in the United States and I was living a fair way away in Australia. About 5 years ago we lost contact and then out of the blue I heard from her In February.
Today after knowing each other for 12 years we finally met. We went and had a coffee and didn't draw breath for about 10 hours. Seriously did not stop talking.
We spent the day walking through Central Park, finally a beautiful Summer's day. Had a small incident when we came across about 10 paparazzi photographers with them massive zoom lens focused on one of the apartment buildings. I was slightly horrified that they were clearly trying to take photographs of some poor unsuspecting movie star and was quite prepared to go and tell them what vultures they were when it became apparent that this is what they were focusing on.

In Which I get behind in Posting.
Friday night, George's brother's otherwise known as The Kin, were playing at the Rockwood Music Hall. Ingrid and I tagged along. I was blown away, they were UNBELIEVABLE. I could have sat there and listened to them all night which considering my idea of a 'good night' is my bed, my cats, my electric blanket on high and a good book. We needed dessert to recover so of to Sweet Dream Temptations again were we ate pudding. Again. Seriously good pudding. It was George's fault, I would never have thought about dessert until she mentioned it.
Saturday. I had read about Smorgasbord in Brooklyn and it looked like the right place to spend Ingrid's last morning in New York. The concierge in the hotel gave us a rather large bum steer. We ended up getting off at the wrong subway station and had to walk 45 minutes to get to Smorgasbord. We could possibly have been a LITTLE bit cross, tired and grumpy when we finally made it there to find it all out in the full sun (it was very hot) and really not what we expected. Don't get me wrong it was good and if we had only had to walk 10 minutes to get there it would have been better. We had to cab it back to Manhattan as there was track work on the subway going uptown and there was a massive queue to get on. I don't like massive queue's.
We ended up in Soho at Ruby's for a quick bite to eat (tuna pasta) and then walked back to the hotel.
I have no idea how many miles Ingrid and I covered in the 7 days we spent together but I can tell you it was a LOT. We had the most amazing time together despite the fact she wouldn't share all my bad eating binges (not that there were many of them). I am not sure how we made it anywhere as we both had a dreadful sense of direction and when I say dreadful I really mean dreadful. I don't think we had a single argument (except when she ate my favourite cupcake) and there were a couple of 2 am conversations when we wee both awake and couldn't sleep.
All in all we had the best time and then she jumped into a cab and left me crying on the curb. Literally.

Greenwich Village
Today was a day of rest - sort of. We caught the subway to Greenwich village and walked for about 4 hours exploring the area, especially the shops :) Cannot tell you how excited I was to find a Crumbs cupcake shop and celebrated with a red velvet cupcake. I didn't take the camera with me today so this is an 'official photo'
Seriously good, having now had a 'few cupcakes' I am of the belief that Crumbs are the best.
After Greenwich we walked back to Soho in search of a few odds and ends and then came back to the hotel for a refreshing cup of tea and would you believe it .... a cupcake!!
Tonight we are off to see George's brother's The Kin play. Very excited about this. Apart from singing well they are such lovely, lovely boys.
Ingrid and I are now quite proficient at the subway, we have only jumped on the wrong train once. We have been well entertained on many rides with all sorts of singing, musical instruments and sad stories. We have yet to have a rapper which is disappointing.
Tomorrow we are off to Brooklyn for Smorgasbord to make sure we have covered all food types. My travel partner is then deserting me(:() and I am off to stay with Stef and George and Monte.
I can say, quite honestly and without exaggeration Ingrid and I walked and shopped till we dropped. Because of malfunctioning pedometers (plural) we have no idea how far we walked buy man it was a LOOOOONNNNNGGGG way!!!

Pilates and More
I think we walked an extra 10000 kilometers yesterday. We started off by
looking at a pilates studio and then had a walk around the public
library. Quick subway ride (we are subway expert's now) to another pilates studio. We then actually did a pilates class. Like actually DID a pilates class. Ow. Seriously OW.
Then we stopped and have a wee dessert at Eatly to recover from the shock of having to exercise. Ingrid had a Tiramsu and I had a pannacotta thingy. Just beautiful and made us feel much better. Subway back up to 5th Ave a tiny bit more looking around, then we hopped on the HOHO bus. (Hop on, hop off) except we didn't hop off. We did the Uptown tour and it gave us a great view of NY and an area we hadn't investigated.
Last night Ingrid went off to the ballet and I went to dinner with friends of George and Stef's.
Ingrid's last full day today. When you read this it will be William's birthday sooo....

In Which we saw Brooklyn and Didn't eat a Single Cupcake!
Instead we had three different puddings for dessert, lemon and strawberry pudding, Banana pudding and chocolate bomb pudding. Thankfully we are going to do a pilates class tomorrow.
Had a brilliant day with a Big Apple Greeter who showed us around Brooklyn for 5 hours. I fell in love with Brooklyn Heights. I want to move there, this will help me to acquire my Brooklyn accent! I cannot tell you how far we walked it had to be around 30,000 steps. My pedometer kept crashing, probably due to all the walking!
After Brooklyn we recovered at the hotel with a quick snack on chocolate covered pretzels then went and did a bit more shopping because in Ingrid's world there can never be enough shopping!!!! (HAHAHAHA). The girls came over for dinner and we had Italian and the three puddings. Thankfully we remembered that we have an accessible rooftop. View is AMAZING!! We watched the sun set and then took dessert up there.
Photo's are random tonight. Need to sleep to gather strength for pilates class.

In Which we went shopping and shopping and shopping
Today we slept in till 8. Much needed sleep in. Breakfast was a bagel
from the local deli, I was in heaven. Ingrid not so much. Well fueled
we headed for Macy's. On the subway. On our own (with the help of
hopstop an iPhone app). Then we shopped till we dropped of starvation
and lack of caffeine. For 6 hours.
We finally made it back to the hotel exhausted and shattered, a good
strong cup of tea and 6 mini muffins later we were raring to go
again Off to the theater. Now bear in mind it is supposed to be VERY
hot in New York but it isn't. It isn't AT ALL. and the only 'nice'
clothes we brought with us reflect the hot weather we are supposed to
be having. Tonight is Broadway night and it's raining and cold and I
mean COLD and were going to the theater. BROADWAY theater!! So here we
are decked up to the nines beautiful outfits and shoes and north face
polar fleeces and very unattractive rain jackets. Glamorous in a
strange sort of way.
Thoroughly enjoyed How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,
was a magnificent show. I was very cross with how people dressed to go to the theater. Jeans even!!! We had four Brooklyn dames with the BEST accents sitting behind us. Am now considering acquiring a Brooklyn accent. After the show had finished we headed towards the subway, unfortunately we came across Junior's Cheesecake, suppposedly the best cheesecake in New York. It was good but mine is better. Then we got sidetracked by the lights - oh the lights!!!
Then we found a shoe shop THEN Ingrid spotted the Disney shop. I found a nice quiet corner but at 11:45 put my foot down (in a Tinkerbell like manner) and said Home or I'll hurt you.
